Dead Chicken Senryu (w/video)

Not for weak stomachs. Text of the senryu is below if you don't want to see the video.

At the chicken house:
Dung and decay fill the air.
How appetizing!

More Christmas senryu

When I was younger,
I would be the first one up
On Christmas morning.

Another either/or

Pattering on leaves:
Raindrops falling from the roof?
Or a swarm of mice?

Christmas senryu

Long string of red lights:
A Christmas decoration?
or traffic at night?

Tra-la

The choir director
Pauses, then gives the downbeat.
The music begins.

Duck!

Mallards on patrol,
One December afternoon.
A bored hawk watches.

I literally flushed the hawk out of his perch above the sidewalk. I was paying attention to the ducks, so didn’t see him until he swooped overhead on his way to a safer tree. The ducks didn’t seem to be too worried about the hawk.

Record highs

December warm spell.
And yet the air remembers
Its seasonal chill.

Disappearing Act

A white church steeple,
Its cross nigh invisible
In a winter sky.

Dust, or…

Sparkles in the air,
Dust motes lifted by sunlight —
Or fairies dancing?

Untitled

From two deep, dark pools:
A hunger reaches toward me,
Yet unrealized.

Indian Summer

Crickets sing slowly;
Warm November afternoon.
Sky promises rain.

Something more traditional

Cherry blossom scent,
carried on the cool spring wind:
Honeybees swarming.
